About Us

Our Story

Grace Place CDC is a coordinated infrastructure platform designed to transform the social, economic, and relational landscape of our community — one family at a time.

Who We Are

Integrated Community Development

Grace Place Community Development Corporation is a nonprofit organization rooted in North Mobile County, Alabama. We were incorporated in 2018 out of a conviction that strong families, financial stability, and community wholeness are deeply interconnected — and that building the infrastructure to support all three is the work of a generation.

We are currently in an infrastructure-establishing phase: building partnerships, pursuing grant funding, and developing our board of directors. Our geographic focus is the communities of Prichard, Chickasaw, Eight Mile, and Whistler in North Mobile County, with housing development work extending into Mobile Midtown.

Through three integrated pillars — the Dent Leadership Academy (education and youth development), COPE (community outreach and mental health), and P2CW — Power 2 Create Wealth (economic development and homeownership) — Grace Place CDC is building an ecosystem designed to remove barriers, create pathways, and empower families to build generational wealth.

Our Origin

Born from The City of Grace

Grace Place CDC grew out of The City of Grace Mobile — a multi-ethnic, multi-generational ministry aimed at reaching and restoring people through God's grace. Co-pastored by Dr. Charles and Jabaria Dent, the church's commitment to whole-person restoration made it clear that spiritual formation and community development are not separate callings.

In 2018, the Dents incorporated Grace Place CDC as a nonprofit organization with a vision to build coordinated infrastructure that could remove barriers, create pathways, and empower families to succeed across generations. The organization was gaining momentum when COVID-19 halted active programming in 2020.

In 2021, the property at 4400 Government Street — purchased to serve as the home of both the nonprofit and the church — was destroyed by fire. The loss was significant. In the years that followed, the organization was dormant. But its founders were not.

Dr. Dent continued leading mental health initiatives across the region, focusing on veterans, Black men, and men of color — working to reduce stigma and increase access to mental health support. Jabaria worked across secondary charter school, post-secondary, and out-of-school youth development contexts, deepening her expertise in education systems, youth development, and institutional strategy.

Through their individual work, the Dents arrived at the same conclusion from different directions: the community needed a holistic infrastructure. That conviction is what brought Grace Place CDC back to life — this time with the experience, clarity, and urgency to build it right.
